Among all the information and misinformation present in the media, one particularly damaging representation is that of male and female roles.By including more and more important female roles, the media, including books, movies, television series, and video games can avoid portraying gender stereotypes that ultimately form society’s perception of gender roles.Men were expected to be the breadwinners (Cooper, 2013; Sato, 1987; Saito, 2007 ). Japan, like China and Korea, is heavily influenced by Confucian ideals. Men are the heads of the household; women are dependent on the men. Wives could be returned to her family if she failed to produce an heir. Ideally, three generations would live under a single roof.

Women are expected to marry, produce heirs, and over see the household. During the Tokugawa Shogunate (1602-1868), women did not legally exist. In 1946, the Japanese Constitution revised a set of laws that defined Japanese family relations.

What they mean is that Germans don’t really go on formal “dates” as much as Americans do.

So people go out to restaurants together but it’s not really thought of as a ‘date-night’.
